Harvest Moon Echoes of Teradea Fishing Rod: Worth Upgrading?

Community guides list the Old Fishing Rod at 1,000 G from shops in Bloomfield and Tidewind, or 800 G from the Traveling Merchant, and you can only buy one. Priya’s Crafting Shop in Tidewind handles rod upgrades. The first, the Expert Fishing Rod, is listed at 2,000 G plus 3 Bronze and 3 Iron, and later tiers are not yet confirmed.

Where to buy your first fishing rod

The starting rod is the Old Fishing Rod. Community guides list it at the General Store in Bloomfield, at Eileen’s, and at Priya’s Fishing Zone for 1,000 G. The Traveling Merchant is reported to sell it for 800 G, so it is worth checking the merchant if you are short on gold.

You can only buy one Old Fishing Rod. Pick the cheapest seller you can reach rather than waiting for a better model. Prices come from launch-era guides, so confirm the number in the shop before you pay.

How fishing rod upgrades work

Priya’s Crafting Shop in Tidewind is the place to upgrade the rod. The collected guide says it can upgrade the rod four times in total. Each new tier replaces the rod you already own, so you never need to keep two rods.

The shop only uses materials carried in your bag or Animal Bag. It cannot pull items from home Storage. If a recipe does not appear even though you own the materials, carry them with you and confirm that you own the previous rod tier.

Expert Fishing Rod cost and materials

The first upgrade is the Expert Fishing Rod. One community guide lists it at 2,000 G plus 3 Bronze and 3 Iron. Mine the ore early, because the gold fee is the easier part to save for.

Check the in-game menu before you refine ore or spend gold. Recipes can change with patches, and this site has not verified the later tiers. Later upgrades may also add story requirements that the guides do not cover yet.

Why a better rod matters

A better rod has more rod HP, reels faster, and costs less stamina per fight. That makes heavy fish and long sessions much easier. It also helps during the Tidewind Fishing Zone contest, where points decide progress.

You first meet the Tornado Island Guardian before any rod upgrade is available. The Ragworm or Worm bait matters more than the rod at that stage. Hold Down on the left stick until the fish stops fighting, then press A to reel it in.

Fishing Zone pass, bait and points

Priya sells a 300 G pass to the Fishing Zone at the northern edge of the Tidewind pier. Fish you catch there count as points and cannot be kept. The message board lists the fish available that day.

Bait costs 80 G inside the Fishing Zone but only 30 G at Eileen’s General Store. Buy it before you go, then aim for 300 points to impress Barq. The chapter guide says three Sardines are enough to reach that score.
